Application Design
The key portion of an application is what you state as hypothesis, as aims and sub-aims. If you design is not hypothesis driven and the hypothesis is not testable, then you must reconsider. If you call NIH staff for help and potential leads, the first thing they would ask is for aims you are considering. In this 1-3 pages portion of the application with hypothesis, aims and sub-aims you MUST convince peers of the what, why, how, and what for?

Before you waste time designing experiments that could potentially be completed by other, and worse funded by the institute you are applying, check http://crisp.cit.nih.gov/ where all funded applications are required to post names, abstracts and PI information.
