    General Information

Graduate education at the College of Veterinary Medicine Nursing and Allied Health (CVMNAH) offers candidates an opportunity to focus training on a particular subject or skill. Generally, applicants to graduate school start with clear objectives and focused intentions guiding themselves into subspecialties that serve their future interest optimally. For instance, preparing for work at CDC, USDA, Industry, etc. This page offers answer to most questions that decided and un-decided candidates may have.

Often, applicants seek help from advisors and counselors as they change direction from undergraduate education, work after college, etc. In either case, graduate education demands from applicants more than college education probably did. In particular, graduate education allows applicants the opportunity to enter and participate in the academic environment of Research and Advanced Studies (RAS) that contributes greatly to institutions of higher education standing. At CVMNAH, the Associate Dean for Research and Advanced Studies (ADRAS) administers RAS.

Tuskegee University prides itself in offering opportunity to underprivileged minorities capable and willing to embark in the demanding tasks that graduate education requires. Applicants seeking sub-specialties for which little or no prior experience was obtained through previous training, must come to speed with contemporary demands and Graduate School requirements that are clearly outlined in the Graduate Handbook.

Applicants transferring credits (requires approval) needing background-knowledge required to successfully master CORE COURSES, or simply wanting to understand the foundations of a graduate course (e.g., Biostatistics) may have to take additional courses at the undergraduate level to strengthen knowledge foundation, and to minimize the time required to complete graduate work. Every graduate student taking undergraduate courses must obtain permission from the instructor and/or advisor.

Master level graduate students do not automatically receive tuition, stipend and/or scholarship upon admission. It is the applicant’s responsibility to defray the cost of graduate education. It is recommended that applicants become familiar with FACULTY EXPERTISE available in the CVMNAH at Tuskegee University in order to identify as early as possible a laboratory and advisor willing to work with him/her. Finally,

all applicants must keep in mind that the CVMNAH works under the Rationale/Premise that:

* Research is Service - Research focused in creating new knowledge to apply existing knowledge to advance and expand the dimensions of science

* Teaching/Training is service to our students and learners

* Service is an obligation to serve local, regional, national and global communities in the best traditions of Tuskegee University intentions
