The mission (purpose) of Research and Advanced Studies at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Nursing & Allied Health (CVMNAH) is to transform trainees into ambassadors of the Tuskegee tradition to benefit Man and animals. Such a tradition is honed in the "one medicine-one health" concept that for decades has guided our academic mission, to expand biosciences and create bridges between veterinary medicine, agricultural and food sciences on one side and human health and welfare on the other.
CVMNAH at Tuskegee University offers DVM/PhD, DVM/MS, MS, and PhD degree programs in Veterinary Science and Tropical Animal Health. These programs are designed to provide candidates state-of-the-art biomedical research training and exposure to advanced instrumentation in modern laboratory and classroom settings. CVMNAH office of the Associate Dean for Research and Advanced Studies (ADRAS) ensures that trainees acquire the necessary skills to make them marketable in any academic or industrial setting. CVMNAH also offers non-degree post-graduate studies designed to ensure candidates' successful placement nationally and internationally.
CVMNAH physical complex includes modern administrative, teaching, and research buildings that are strategically situated near each other on a single centralized campus, to maximize candidates' exposure to a variety of academic activities. In addition, the graduate programs of CVMNAH are strengthened by its close association with the College of Agricultural, Environmental and Natural Sciences (CAENS) and guided by sound ethical principles of the Tuskegee University National Center for Bioethics in Research and Health Care (NCBRHC).
CVMNAH graduate degrees are supported by a strong and strategic infrastructure of administrative and academic resources that promote outstanding veterinary and biomedical education, research and service. Graduates emerge with a deep understanding of how to best apply knowledge gained for the benefit of citizens of the nation and the world.
The academic infrastructure of CVMNAH in place to advance biomedical research takes full advantage of Information Technology in collaborating with other universities governmental agencies and the private sector, to broaden trainees' horizons.
To expand a world-class Research and Advanced Studies at CVMNAH including:
Research to advance the biosciences especially in selected areas of molecular sciences and biotechnology. Building bridges across the disciplines especially with the agricultural, environmental and food sciences and other areas of the biosciences including bio-engineering, bio-business and related disciplines.
Research to promote the "one medicine-one health concept," building bridges to connect veterinary medicine with human health, to exploit the new technologies and biotechnologies.
Research to advance veterinary medicine into the new millennium by extrapolating findings that transcend a single discipline.
To ensure success of the chosen training areas, CVMNAH employs an extensive network of modern interconnected computers, electronic, and audiovisual resources to complement theoretical and laboratory work. These resources enhance the competency of the veterinary faculty, staff and students and exploit Information Technology and electronic databases in biomedicine allowing trainees to use the computer and related digital technologies for systematic biomedical problem analysis and management.
The vision is under-girded by strong ethical values supported by hard work and scientific excellence and respect for life and the environment, all dedicated to serve local and global communities.
