Summary of Project Goals/Objectives and Expected Outcomes
Project Goals :
Strengthen SPS capacity in India through risk assessment training
Create long-term partnerships between Tuskegee University, NASULGC, USDA, ANGRAU in India and other Indian government agencies and universities.
Project Objectives:
To provide risk analysis and SPS workshop to participants from India in order to promote global trade in agricultural products
To provide training in epidemiologic risk analysis and modeling with a focus on animal, plant health and food safety risk assessments
To provide resources for risk analysis and modeling training using (CD-ROM, and the Internet)
To provide additinal short term training to at least six Indian scientists to get firsthand exposure to SPS regulatory agencies and activities in the US
Expected Outcomes :
Strengthen human capacity for SPS compliance and risk assessment;
Increase opportunities for trade;
Improve relationships between India and the US;
Increase collaboration between the US and India on SPS issues;
Reduce potential risk to the US of foreign pests and diseases, and
Refine and share Internet and CDROM based SPS and risk assessment resources for mentoring and on-going support
More specifically, we will:
Organize and teach one workshop in Hyderabad, India on SPS compliance and risk assessments;
Advise Indian universities on curriculum development for SPS compliance;
Provide mentoring opportunities for at least six Indian scientists and SPS regulators with counterparts in the US;
Initiate at least ten quantitative and qualitative risk assessments that Indian scientists and administrators decide as high priority needs for agricultural exports from India
