Small Intestines of the Ruminants

Duodenum:

The cranial part begins at the pylorus that passes dorsally toward the visceral surface of the liver. It forms a S-shaped curve, the sigmoid flexure that receives the bile duct. The descending duodenum courses caudodorsally. Near the tuber coxae it passes from right to left around the caudal border of the root of the mesentery to form the caudal flexure. The ascending duodenum runs cranially to join the jejunum at the duodenojejunal flexure

Jejunum:

Is arranged in the form of numerous close loops in the free border of the mesentery. It is usually found in the supraomental recess on the right side of the rumen.

Ileum:

Is the terminal part of the small intestine that enters the junction of the cecum and colon at the ileocecal orifice. It is attached to the cecum by the ileocecal fold
