2. Interior Anatomy

B. Omasoabomasum

I. Omasum

The omasum is larger than the reticulum in ox, and smaller that the reticulum in sheep and goats. It is spherical in shape and communicates with the reticulum through the reticuloomasal opening and with the abomasum through the omasoabomasal opening. Arising from the wall and projecting into the interior are parallel folds of varying sizes the omasal laminae. They are thin muscular sheet covered by mucous membrane. The omasal laminae are covered by short papillae. Between the laminae are the interlaminar recesses. At the base of the abomasum is the omasal groove that connects the reticuloomasal opening with the omasoabomasal opening
