Stomach of the Ruminants:

2. Interior Anatomy

A. Ruminoreticulum

II. Reticulum

The nonglandular mucosa of the reticulum forms permanent crests, which intersect to form honeycomb-like cells. Each cell is divided by a secondary crests and both the cell and the crests are studded with small papillae

The reticular groove is formed by two muscular ridges or lips extending from the cardia to the reticuloomasal opening. The left and right lips meet dorsal to the cardiac opening and pass ventrally and slightly caudally along the right wall of the reticulum. The right lip passes around the ventral aspect of the reticuloomasal opening from left to right.
