General Comparative Anatomy of the Stomach
Mucosal Regions:
According to the nature of the inner lining epithelium there are two general types: a nonglandular mucosa, which is covered with stratified squamous epithelium; and a glandular mucosa, which is covered by simple columnar epithelium. Stomachs lined with glandular mucosa are called glandular stomach, while those lined with both glandular and nonglandular epithelium are called composite stomach. Carnivores have glandular stomachs, however, horse, pig and ruminants have composite stomachs.
